How to Deliver An Effective Learner Experience In eLearning: Key Tips

We live in a connected world. While Amazon revolutionized the mode of shopping, Airbnb, Uber etc. have impacted accommodation and transport. But, one revolution that seeded it all was that of internet connectivity. The means of payment, communication all came in after.

Ever wondered what would happened if one of the gears in this well-oiled chain were to fail? Say for instance, the electronic retail without a well-functioning delivery system would cripple the entire system. Wondering where this points to? Well, doesn’t this make an excellent case in point when related to eLearning too? Consider a well-conceptualized, well-planned and creatively developed eLearning, deployed using an LMS that fails to function well. That would make all the efforts futile, wouldn’t it?

Just a few days back we shared the key tips for creating effective eLearning experience. Creation is one aspect, but the mode of delivery, the medium/channel of delivery too play an equally important role when it comes to creating an effective learner experience. But, delivering an effective learning experience isn’t just about the type of Learning management system used and is often influenced by various other factors. Here are a few tips to get it right.

Tip 1# The Ease of Access

Now access begins with login procedures. While security cannot be ignored, the level of complexity should be moderate and shouldn’t be multi-layered nor excessively time consuming. But even before this comes another aspect- connectivity.

How is the LMS with eLearning course loaded on the device, very often the web-based content and even most App-based ones need network connection for loading the components within the course. Connectivity is also required for tracking and reporting functionalities, and for using the social media elements too. In certain cases, this also calls for Offline-mode.

The facility to download the course to the device, for offline access is the likely move for ensuring that consistent learning experience is delivered to both the employees stationed in the office and the ones who are engaged in constant travelling, or work at sites where network connection is a major issue.

Tip 2# Device-Browser-OS Compatibility

While these are aspects that are given high priority during content creation, it also influences the delivery of effective learner experience. The smoothness of delivery often depends on testing different permutations and combinations of device-browsers and OSs. Untested eLearning can have glitches that may irritate or annoy the learners.

If the course is designed to be multi-device, thoroughly check the smoothness during transitions and while switching to another device in order to deliver and effective learner experience.

Tip3# Accessibility, Innovation, Do Matter

The effectiveness of eLearning is often determined by how well the learning is experienced and even by those with disabilities. While the aspect is considered during instructional design, it works only if the delivery system, the devices etc. function accordingly.

Innovation isn’t restricted to content creation, but also is a part of the delivery mechanism. Gamified LMS systems, or gamified modules, utilization of AR or VR devices etc. gives eLearning delivery an additional push making it more effective in engaging the learners.

The effectiveness of eLearning, the effectiveness of learning experience all depend on the interactions with the course, the overall learning strategy and most importantly the participation of the learners which in turn is often the result of good content creation and efficient delivery.

Devising a fool-proof strategy however, may take time and experience. This is where eLearning vendors can be great assistants and partners.
